MC-17 Musical Clock

picture of E-27The HOLMBERG MODEL MC-17 Musical Clock is a contemporary HALLMARK representation of the most famous organ clock ever built, The 1792 Haydn/Niemecz Flötenuhr.

The model MC-17 is designed as a contemporary version of the original 17 note Haydn Clock of 1792, and for which Haydn wrote 12 beautiful, highly ornamented Clock Music compositions.  This outstanding music uses 17 notes, over a two-octave compass. The only accidentals that Haydn used for this music are the two f sharps. The tone for the first, lowest, note on the Clock is C, and is the same tone as middle C on the piano and organ. The Musical Clock plays the notes of the Haydn manuscripts exactly.

Music compositions will play following the Chimes at the quarters, or at the hour strike as programmed by the owner. These musical gems are about one minute in length. They were originally pinned on a barrel in the Haydn instrument. These pins triggered the organ action that played the organ pipes. Our instrument has a digital signal that triggers the organ action and plays the organ pipes. The pipe organ with its pipes is much the same as it has been historically.

This instrument continues a tradition of over three hundred years in pipe making. The organ pipes are constructed of solid walnut, from logarithmic scales halving on the 22nd note, sounding with low cut-ups on a wind pressure of 1 1/2 inches w.g. The mouths are cut in the Germany style, and as noted in several of Audsley’s great works, this style mouth was always the favorite pipe form of the German Master composers and organists. The favored flute tone for centuries, and favored today; heard in the finest instruments in the world, old and new.

The MC-17’s repertoire may be enlarged with over 40 more compositions beyond the twelve famous Haydn compositions that are included with a Clock purchase. The complete Music Library List is available on request.
